Quiet Acknowledgement

What makes a good neighbor?

Writing Prompt

Homes with front lawns and windows facing each other in permanent stares never blinking until the curtains close or the grass grows too tall to see.

And when doors open and people finally emerge under carports  some stumbling  to curbside cars and bus stops, hands lift in subtle greetings in case anyone is looking and then hurry back to hide inside pockets.

Everyone content in the quiet and half-hearted greetings. Off in cars, stepping onto the bus, going out into the noise.
